Whitney Ann Cummings, born on September 4, 1982, in Washington, D.C., is a stand-up comic known for her sharp wit, fearless humor, and incisive social commentary. Beyond the stage, she is also an actress, writer, producer, director, and podcaster. She has left an indelible mark on the comedy world with her bold style and groundbreaking work in television such as starring in the NBC sitcom Whitney (2011–2013) and co-creating the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls (2011–2017).
Raised in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., Cummings attended St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004 with a degree in Communications and Film. After college, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment.
Cummings began her stand-up career in 2004 and gained recognition through regular appearances on E!'s Chelsea Lately. In 2011, she created and starred in the NBC sitcom Whitney, which aired for two seasons. That same year, she co-created the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, which ran for six seasons. She has released several stand-up specials, including Money Shot (2010), I Love You (2014), I'm Your Girlfriend (2016), and Can I Touch It? (2019).
In addition to her television work, Cummings made her directorial debut with the film The Female Brain (2017), in which she also starred. She has appeared in films such as Made of Honor (2008), The Wedding Ringer (2015), and Unforgettable (2017). In 2017, she released her first book, I'm Fine...And Other Lies, a collection of personal essays.
Cummings hosts the podcast Good for You, where she engages in candid conversations with a variety of guests. She continues to tour nationally as a stand-up comedian and remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
