Sam Morril

Who is Sam Morril?

Sam Morril, born on August 29, 1986, in New York City, is a prominent American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer. Renowned for his sharp wit and observational humor, Morril has established himself as a significant figure in the contemporary comedy scene.

Growing up in New York, Morril was immersed in an artistic environment. His mother is a painter, and his stepfather is an attorney in the publishing industry. Through his biological father, Morril is the nephew of fashion photographer Arthur Elgort and the cousin of actor and singer Ansel Elgort. He attended the Browning School in Manhattan and later pursued higher education at Tulane University in New Orleans before transferring to New York University.

Morril's comedy career gained momentum in 2011 when he was named one of Comedy Central's "Comics to Watch." He has since made multiple appearances on late-night television, including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Late Late Show with James Corden, and Conan. In 2016, he showcased his talent on America's Got Talent, further expanding his audience.

In September 2018, Comedy Central released his first one-hour special, Amy Schumer Presents Sam Morril: Positive Influence. Demonstrating adaptability during the COVID-19 pandemic, Morril self-released the special Up On The Roof in 2020, performing on various rooftops across New York City to comply with social distancing measures. His subsequent special, Same Time Tomorrow, premiered on Netflix in 2022, and in July 2024, he released You've Changed on Amazon Prime Video, receiving critical acclaim for his insightful humor and engaging delivery.

Beyond stand-up, Morril hosted his own show on MSG Networks titled People Talking Sports, which ran for two seasons and earned an Emmy® nomination. He also made a cameo appearance as an open mic comic in the 2019 film Joker, showcasing his versatility as a performer.

In the realm of podcasting, Morril co-hosts We Might Be Drunk alongside fellow comedian Mark Normand, where they discuss various topics, often featuring guest appearances from other comedians and entertainers.
