Rogan spent his early years in Newark before his family moved to Massachusetts. He developed an interest in martial arts during his teenage years, practicing taekwondo and kickboxing. After graduating from Newton South High School, he briefly attended the University of Massachusetts Boston but dropped out to pursue a career in comedy.

In the late 1980s, Rogan began performing stand-up comedy in the Boston area. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1994, securing roles in television shows such as Hardball and NewsRadio. From 2001 to 2006, he gained widespread recognition as the host of the reality show Fear Factor.

Rogan's involvement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) began in 1997 as a backstage interviewer. He later became a color commentator, earning praise for his insightful analysis and enthusiasm for the sport.

In 2009, Rogan launched The Joe Rogan Experience, which has grown into one of the world's most popular podcasts. The show features long-form conversations with a diverse array of guests, including comedians, actors, musicians, MMA fighters, authors, and scientists. In 2020, Rogan signed an exclusive licensing deal with Spotify, reportedly worth $100 million, making the podcast available exclusively on the platform.
